Message from the Mayor
Amsterdam is in many fields a major city, but it has the ease of small-scale living. It offers you a lot of different city parts with varying atmospheres. From big clubs to small, cosy cafes. 17th century houses next to state-of-the-art architecture. Several parks next to a flourishing harbour.
Amsterdam is a true knowledge city with two universities, a university college, a sciencepark and many research institutions.
Amsterdam is a great city to be able to experience the true student life. Whether you are studying, visiting museums, or enjoying a beer at a corner cafe, the Dutch are known for their welcoming and tolerant attitudes to people from all over the world. With a dense public transport network accessible with the OV chip card, vibrant nightlife as well as a rich sense of culture that exudes from your surroundings, Amsterdam is an extraordinary city to explore and study in.
